The Role The house parent ensures a positive, caring and emotionally stable culture in their Boarding House and is responsible to ensure the smooth running of the domestic matters relating to the boarding residence. The house parent should promote the highest possible standards of education, equality of opportunity, and an environment which is conducive to excellence in pastoral care and support. Pastoral Responsibility Ensuring clear communication between Form Tutors, the Senior Leadership Team and parents. To maintain the highest standards of dress, care, attitude, and motivation in the House To ensure the provision of facilities that are comfortable and suited to the needs of boarders Managing information related to student well-being (e.g. evidence of emotional and social distress) and devising appropriate responses To provide a range of activities and opportunities that will assist in the personal, social and cultural development of each boarder Monitor the holistic development of pupils, celebrate their success and act on any concerns Managing disciplinary, reward and support procedures within the boarding house. To promote pupil voice in the House To make sustained and effective contributions towards the improvement of school atmosphere, pastoral well-being and pupil outcomes in the House To lead the induction of new pupils into the House To manage and develop of House parents in their roles Administrative To keep accurate records as required by school policies Safeguarding To safeguard and promote the welfare of all pupils at all times Record and report any concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead Staffing Attend meetings to discuss matters relating to pupils in boarding Attend further committees as required Support the Marketing Department in the celebration and promotion of House successes and initiatives Ensure the house is fully staffed and pupils are always supervised General Undertake any other duties assigned by Lower School SLT Lower School House Parent is expected to: Have knowledge about pastoral and boarding. Be internationally minded. Be a role model for students and staff in the Lower School. Possess exceptional stamina and the flexibility to work beyond the constraints of a Job Description. be both a team player with clear communication and listening skills and a decisive decision maker with the initiative and energy to implement change in the defined areas of authority. Have the ability to work within and apply all school policies e.g. behaviour management, child protection, Health and Safety, and Equal Opportunities. Demonstrate excellent communication skills and a clear understanding of appropriate lines and media of communication throughout the school community. Take initiative and act with decisive authority in the defined areas of responsibility. Have strong ICT and data analysis skills.
